Let's start this again shall we...
Jul. 2nd, 2020 12:54 pmTooth related misadventures sort of derailed this whole thing for a while, and I won't go into them because ugh and also ugh. Mostly done with now, bar the healing up part which is well underway. This week was the start of "Go anywhere in Ireland" phase of lockdown release. Forget shopping and hairdressers which apparently people are going insane about, I can now visit people outside Offaly and they can visit me. I, for one, am extremely glad to get to this stage, no matter how much I think people are underestimating the whole Covid thing out there. (In all seriousness I understand the Irish hospitality industry has been pummeled, and badly, but I'm not sure hiking prices to the degree they seem to have is helping them in any way whatsoever. And this idea they seem to have that the government could make the virus respect a 1m separation if it *really* wanted to is just weird.)
I'm currently halfheartedly poking work related things as last week's excitement has me a bit behind where I ought to be. Hard to be terribly enthusiastic, I have places to go and trees to visit. Hell, I even have gardening to do which is better than death by a thousand emails of a working day, or partial working day. I suspect it wouldn't be very many responses of "I don't care" that would get me fired, so I'll avoid that. A wage is a useful thing.
Easy QOTD today, since I have been remiss about those too.. What's the most expensive thing you've ever broken?

Date: 2020-07-02 12:56 pm (UTC)I was rather sad the time I pulled out the refrigerator to clean behind it, and the marble pastry board that was standing between the fridge and the wall fell down and broke into several pieces, none of which was large enough to roll out even a hand-held tart.

Date: 2020-07-02 03:22 pm (UTC)I can’t think of the most expensive thing I have broken but I can offer the most stupid way and another which almost broke very expensive gadgets.
The stupid one: when I was moving out of my college room. I had packed almost everything and was trying to figure out a way to get rid of my old shelves etc. without a car. One morning I woke up from loud noises on the street and realised that Sperrmüll was being collected. It’s a council service where they drive round and people can leave large bulky items on the sidewalk for them to collect. So I, with the help of a neighbour, got all my shelves out in time for them to be collected. 10min after they were gone I realised that one of the drawers had contained all my chargers for all my devices that I hadn’t packed yet...
And the almost disaster: Sitting in a cafe in Newport before or after Raglan and me being clumsy and dropping a cup of tea over Aidan’s iPhone and iPad.

Date: 2020-07-03 05:25 pm (UTC)I once missed a typo in a document and thus rendered the whole print run of the document useless (it was instructions on what numbers of pages of legislation in a handbook to replace with the updated version). I think it cost the company like £4000 to reprint it. I was feeling pretty shit about that until my colleague, who worked in the event management bit of HR, told me she once lost a truck containing £40,000 worth of company-branded cupcakes.
